This is the time of year when we reflect, give thanks, celebrate our successes and wonder how the year passed so quickly. It is also the time when we look forward to 2018 with anticipation and belief that the coming year will continue to bring new joys and opportunities as we serve local kids in need through Muncie and Delaware County teachers and schools.
There are many reasons to celebrate our successes of 2017 and I hope you see the impact we are making. Here are a few examples
Within the past two years, more than $ 1.2 Million of product has been donated to teachers in Delaware County. This year 700 teachers visited our store, serving approximately 10,000 children.
In January 2017, our organization joined the Kids In Need Foundation’s national network linking us to 40 free teacher stores across the country. As a result, the store received its firstsemi-truck load ever with donated product valued at approximately $400,000 in core school supplies. The store received several semi-truck loads in 2017.
In August 2017, the store became a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) for the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). Through direct hands on learning, the BTSTS 21st CCLC afterschool program teaches Muncie Central high school students how to become more college and career ready. Local students learn business leadership skills and develop networking opportunities with community partners while volunteering at the store.
This year the store provided back to school supplies to every Muncie Community elementary school classrooms. The store provided core supplies valued at $170,000 to low-income students attending MCS’s Northside Middle, Southside Middle, and Muncie Central High Schools. We also provided PTQ Level 3 & 4 day care teachers who serve low-income children with $87,000 of classroom supplies to help prepare them to be kindergarten ready.
We are so grateful for your support as we continue to grow and serve our community.
Founded in 2004, the Back To School Teachers Store (BTSTS) is a 501(c)(3) organization. We provide free school supplies to local kids in need through teachers who are employed in Delaware County's K-12 schools, PTQ Levels 3 & 4 preschools and afterschool programs. In 2017, BTSTS provided local teachers $850,000 worth of classroom supplies at NO COST and served approximately 10,000 students in need.
